Kaginele Butterfly Park in Haveri district draws curious visitors

Haveri: The Kaginele Development Authority (KDA) has advanced a Butterfly Park in the Eco-Friendly Park which is attracting visitors for over a year.
The KDA has identified over 60 butterfly species and is rising nesting crops for them. It has constructed a herbal hut for exhibiting butterfly images in front of the park. "Butterflies are very attractive, but several species have reached the danger zone. We have decided to protect them by developing a separate place in the Kaginele Eco-Friendly Park," mentioned Shashidharswamy Hiremath, in-charge officer of the butterfly park.

He added that they have got advanced a Butterfly Park on 2 acres, identified over 60 species and five households of local and migratory butterflies. Hesperidia -Skipper, Papilionidae-Swallow tail, Pieridae -White and Yellow, Nymphalidae -Brush Footed and Lycaenidae-Blue Butterflies are the species in the park.

Rare crops

There are crops like Aegle marmelos, Albizia chinensis, Butea monosperma, Calotropis gigantea, Calotropis procera for sheltering and copy butterflies. The park also has Stachytarpheta cayennensis, Tridax procumbens, Lantana camara, Ixora coccinea crops for nectar adult butterfly. "We have created a better environment in our park, so thousands of insects in different categories live here," he mentioned.

Southern or Western Ghats Birdwing, Common Rose, Blue Mormon and other rare butterflies are secure in this park, Hiremath mentioned.


Malleshappa Horapete, commissioner, KDA mentioned, "We have constructed a small nature hut in this park for exhibiting butterfly photographs along with species details. It'll help schoolchildren during academic tours. We're preparing all the photos and will start the exhibition soon," he mentioned.


Horapete mentioned the exhibition will track the butterfly's lifecycle from egg, caterpillar, pupa, and cocoon to the adult level. The position of butterflies in our eco-system will probably be showcased.


"KDA's Butterfly Park is a wonderful concept; it gives us knowledge about them. Different types of butterfly species are showcased here and and attracting schoolchildren," mentioned Manjunath Barki, a lecturer in the Government PU College.
