Strategic deployment of forces soon to counter Maoists: DGP

BHUBANESWAR: To take on the Maoist risk in the state, the state police have determined to move for redeployment of security forces engaged in Maoist-hit spaces.
Director general of police Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Sunday said as a part of the police's objective in 2018, there could be strategic redeployment of forces in some spaces to maintain the changing dynamics of ultra violence, especially in Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

The cut-off space in Malkangiri remains to be reporting major Maoist violence, mostly killing of civilians, whom rebels emblem as police informers. "This will require strategic deployment of security forces," Sharma advised TOI.

Without divulging the main points concerning the plan to thwart the extremists' actions, Sharma said bringing the non-cadres, who're being utilized in other roles by means of ultras, to the mainstream will also be one of the most priority spaces. "The Gurupriya bridge will be ready soon and this will be a major boost for movement of the security forces and a key catalyst of development," he added.

He said there can be two-pronged approach to take on the risk. One would be the strategic deployment for deterrence and offensive motion and some other building of the cut-off space, he said.

Official figures show 14 civilians and 9 security personnel were killed in Maoist violence in 2017 (till November 15) in the state. There were general 47 incidents of Maoist violence in the state. In 2016, the state had witnessed 68 incidents of violence dedicated by means of the guerillas.

The best police officer said Nuapada district, which borders Chhattisgarh, has no longer witnessed Red violence in 2017. "More or less, the influence of rebels is getting shrunk in terms of areas. We are keeping a watch on their movements and strategies," he added.
