'Yemen separatists surround Aden presidential palace'

ADEN: Yemeni separatists have surrounded the presidential palace within the government's period in-between capital Aden, an army supply said on Tuesday.
"The separatists have surrounded the palace and now control the main gate. Those inside are unofficially under house arrest at this point," said the supply, a high-ranking officer with the Yemeni army.

Tension between the separatists and the federal government erupted into clashes at the weekend, with greater than 36 folks killed in Aden since Sunday, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Brigadier Saleh al-Sayyed, who heads troops that experience fought alongside the separatists since Sunday, introduced his forces had seized keep watch over of the Fourth Brigade, the presidential guard in Aden.

The southern town has served as the federal government's de facto capital since 2014, when the Huthi rebels seized keep watch over of Sanaa of their fight against the state.


Saudi-backed President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi is living in Riyadh.


Formerly unbiased states, North and South Yemen have been unified in 1991 below the presidency of Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was killed in December in clashes with the Huthis in Sanaa.


The Huthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, keep watch over most of northern Yemen.


The south is house to the Southern Transitional Council, a separatist movement that desires to reinstate South Yemen as an unbiased entity.
