Vendors cry harassment by cops, take to streets

GURUGRAM: Around 200 boulevard vendors from the city took out a rally from Mini Secretariat to outdated MCG place of work on Monday, protesting against the alleged harassment, verbal abuses and extortion they face by the hands of cops and civic authorities.

Many boulevard vendors who took part within the rally mentioned MCG has failed to implement provisions of the Street Vendor (coverage of livelihood and regulation for boulevard merchandising) Act, 2014.

“Following the notification of the coverage in 2015, boulevard vendors had protested for 15 days for its implementation and the then MCG commissioner had agreed to the same. However, after three years, the principles haven’t been notified but,” mentioned Rajender Singh from Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

Many boulevard vendors mentioned after having stayed at the same spot for years, they were being asked to transport. “I have been placing up a stall on MG Road for 8 years now. Some days again, some cops got here and asked without spending a dime meals. When I refused, they abused me verbally and got here again to wreck my stall and remove my stuff,” mentioned Kanti Tiwari.

She added that she was referred to as to the police station where she was verbally abused and asked to by no means return.

Bablu, who has been placing up his stall in Udyog Vihar for the ultimate five to six years, mentioned, “Cops come and ask us without spending a dime meals and if we deny, they in finding other ways to harass us. They damage the stalls and provides threaten us.”
