Vadodara: Bijapur may well be housing – Gol Gumbaz dome - Asia's largest masonry dome construction but it is the Faculty of Arts dome at M S University designed via British architect R F Chisholm in 1880s this is aesthetically way more appealing than Gol Gumbaz.
In reality, use of colors makes MSU dome - designed on the lines of Saint Peter's dome in Vatican City - more appealing than Gol Gumbaz.
While exteriors of arts school dome that had been once painted with herbal colors like 'haldi' may have vanished with the passing time, interiors of the double dome construction are still better colored than Gol Gumbaz.
The Indo-Saracenic style architecture of this 144-foot top dome is alleged to have inspired the architecture of Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai which used to be finished via George Wittet in 1914.
The dome itself is part of the enforcing ‘E’ shaped building that had arise at the price of Rs eight,30,150. The main dome and 8 smaller domes quilt 35,000 square toes area while the Premanand Hall named after Kavi Premanand which earlier used to behave as a convocation corridor is decorated with mural works.
