Thane doctor jumps off 12th floor two days before MD entry test

THANE: A 27-year-old MBBS physician was found useless at the floor ground of a high-rise in Kolshet in Thane. A initial police probe recommended that Dr Sharmishta Som was depressed and jumped off her 12th ground balcony after two failed attempts to knife herself to loss of life round 7am on Saturday.

The police have found a notice purportedly written by way of Dr Som, indicating that she was wired making ready for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Post Graduate checks to get a seat in the MD program.

“Initially, we suspected it was murder because of knife accidents at the neck and wrists. But a notice confirmed it was suicide and he or she had tried to slash her throat and wrists with a knife before she leaped out of the balcony,” said Anil Deshmukh, senior police inspector.


The Soms reside in the 18-storeyed Morning Glory development at Everest World Complex.


It is learnt that Dr Som was a vibrant scholar, but suffered nervousness bouts about her upcoming examination, which she had unsuccessfully attempted final 12 months. She was making ready for the examination scheduled on Monday.


Dr Som had studied till five am on Saturday. After her mother went out, she went to the kitchen, took a knife and went to the bathroom. “She used her right-hand to slash her neck but failed. Then she then tried to slash her wrists but was unsuccessful after which she went to the balcony and jumped,” said the police officer.


An unintended loss of life report has been filed at Kapurbawdi police station. The frame was sent for a postmortem at Thane Civil Hospital.
