'Handful of people to blame for liquor smuggling'

PATNA: DGP Gupteshwar Pandey on Friday blamed a handful of other people, together with some in the government, for liquor smuggling in the state despite prohibition.

“Mere 2-4% of people are liable for liquor smuggling in the state. Action is being taken in opposition to these other people,” the DGP stated at the inaugural consultation of Bihar Police Week right here. “We have roped in canines specialized in sniffing liquor for efficient implementation of prohibition,” he added.

Pandey, who had run a marketing campaign in numerous districts for luck of prohibition when he was once the DG of Bihar Military Police, stated ‘sushashan’ could be ensured in the state at any cost.

“Thanks to fast trial, altogether five,962 other people had been convicted in the state last 12 months. Five of them had been awarded capital punishment, 1,300 life imprisonment and 600 imprisonment for more than ten years. Efforts are on to extend conviction price further,” he stated.

Asked about massive selection of pending cases, the DGP stated either the inspector-rank officers of state police were not operating in keeping with police manual or senior officers were not taking take paintings from them. “Investigations in such cases will have to be completed sooner than the general election,” he added.


ADG (economic offences unit) J S Gangwar stated as part of the Police Week function, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officers had been roped in to impart coaching to cops on techniques to test cyber fraud and different frauds involving e-wallets, UPIs, ATMs and bank cards.


“A noted cyber professional associated with police of several states additionally came from Delhi for a consultation on cyber fraud for cops,” he stated,” adding several different classes can be held right through the week.


On February 26, a parade can be organised at Mithilesh Stadium by which 553 officers and 529 constables from state police and 10 officers and 17 constables from paramilitary forces can be felicitated.
