SSKM complaint against admission fraud

KOLKATA: The SSKM hospital has lodged a grievance with Bhowanipore police on Saturday after it came to gentle that a faux hospital admission racket had duped an aged Regent Estate couple of Rs two-lakhs promising them admission within the hospital’s Woodburn Ward. The racket had also used faux letter heads and seals of IPGME&R director Manimoy Bandopadhyay and scientific superintendent Raghunath Mishra.

According to the grievance, Ranjan Kumar Basu, 70, a retired vigilance officer of the erstwhile state electrical energy board, had been suffering from cardiac comparable headaches for the previous two-months. To make matters worse, Basu a resident of Pallyshree in Regent Estate had been bed ridden for the previous weeks. Basu’s spouse Sabita had appealed to the CMO for assist. On a letter of advice from the CMO, Basu was once earlier handled in NRS Medical College hospital. He was once beneficial for admission within the SSKM hospital for a pacemaker implant.


It was once around this time weeks back, one Biswarup Ghosh – a distant relative of the couple – presented to make issues easier for them. In 3 instalments, he took Rs two-lakh from the aged couple promising them that all the sum would be refunded through the hospital. To prove this, he produced letters and recommendations from the top SSKM management. When Ghosh saved failing dates, Sabita took her husband in an ambulance to SSKM hospital with the entire letters. It was once then the hospital government realised the fraud. Basu was once admitted to the cardiology ward for treatement. Professor Mishra, the scientific superintendent and vice-principal, later lodged the police grievance. Police stated Ghosh is yet to be arrested.
