False rape case: 'Struggling to overcome trauma'

BENGALURU: A 32-year-old cell phone shopkeeper accused of raping a minor lady through brandishing a gun-shaped lighter and acquitted through a local courtroom, says months later he is yet to overcome the trauma caused through the charges foisted towards him.

The acquittal came about after the woman and her mom deposed that that they had by no means noticed the accused, Srinath AV, a resident of Judicial Layout.

On July 23, 2018, Yelahanka New Town police booked Srinath, alleging he had posed as a police officer, abducted the 17-year-old lady after brandishing a gun-shaped cigarette lighter, took her in his car to a room and raped her.

The case was registered underneath Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Srinath was sent to jail.

In November, judge M Latha Kumari acquitted Srinath after the woman and her mom said that they had by no means noticed Srinath. The lady’s mom instructed the courtroom that her daughter was missing and she or he lodged a missing complaint, but later found her in a relative’s place of abode. She had neither noticed the accused nor given any commentary towards him, she said.

The lady disputed the Yelahanka New Town police model, pronouncing she didn't even know Srinath. She said she was staying at a relative’s area.

The judge in her order stated the allegations have been baseless, pointing out that when the woman herself had now not subsidized police allegations, the prosecution case didn't have any substance.

“A false case was filed towards me. Vested pursuits have been tough ransom as my brother and I have been prospering in our business. We have been threatened with dire consequences, if we didn't pay up. Some people in the past also overtly threatened and my brother was kidnapped and assaulted. However, police didn't arrest the accused and all this took place later,” said Srinath.

Srinath said his circle of relatives too is traumatised as all of the rape drama was cooked up simplest seven months after his marriage. “I had by no means noticed the woman or her mom,” he said.

The case as in line with police

According to police, the woman and her pal have been sitting in a park near her school and Srinath came in a Swift Dzire car and pointed a gun-like object in opposition to them. Srinath later adopted the woman while she was walking house, driven her into his car and took her to a room in Chikkabommasandra, where he raped her at the gunpoint. After that he made her eat anti-pregnancy pills and threatened her towards revealing what had took place to others.

The case was probed through Manjunath, then inspector of Yelahanka New Town police, and Anil Kumar, who replaced him later filed the chargesheet in October 2018.
