Two arrested in Delhi restaurant sewage deaths

NEW DELHI: Two senior managers of a restaurant in Delhi had been arrested in connection with the loss of life of 2 workers whilst cleaning its kitchen treatment plant, police stated on Sunday.
The incident came about on Saturday on the Pirates of Grill restaurant in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden.


Housekeeping workers Rakesh (45) and Ajay (19) died due to asphyxiation, whilst two in their colleagues had been hospitalised, the police had stated.

The homeowners of the restaurant had been also puzzled and they are going during the paperwork to ascertain their position, an officer stated.

Area manager Pankaj Kumar and unit manager Aftab were arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj stated.


A case was registered beneath Section 304 (culpable murder not amounting to homicide) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Bhardwaj stated.


Investigations printed that the accused had been the supervisory officers of the group of workers and had been responsible for their security and safety, an officer stated.


None of the four staff who went to the basement to scrub its kitchen treatment plant had been supplied any safety gears. Being the supervisory group of workers, it was the duty of the duo to offer safety gears ahead of letting them clean the treatment plant, the officer stated.


The autopsy examination of the bodies are but to be carried out and the family members of the sufferers have sought reimbursement. Further investigation is beneath method, the police stated.
