NEW DELHI: Sending out the strongest signal but to the old guard that they are going to sooner or later have to make way for the early life, Congress president Rahul Gandhi mentioned the party may best be modified by way of demolishing “the wall” between staff and leaders — calling it his “first process” at the top.
Although he “sugarcoated” the messages by way of pronouncing he he would “carry down the wall, not by way of anger however with love, and by way of appearing respect to veterans”, the intent to phase out the old guard may not have escaped the veterans seated in the front rows. With staff at the plenary consultation screaming hoarse at his observation of intent, Rahul added there existed a “2nd wall” between early life and the political device.
After repeated assurances to the jittery old guard over the past two years in the run-up to his ascension and an olive branch in his first speech at the AICC plenary on Saturday, Rahul made organisational reform, with infusion of adlescent and higher treatment of staff, the centrepiece of his address on Sunday which brought down the curtain on the two-day conclave.
The Gandhi scion mentioned “the wall” manifested itself in organisational malaises like election nominations to “aspirants who parachute from above” and in denial of tickets to those that lacked financial muscle.
