NEW DELHI: The executive has identified 8 international routes for extending its subsidised UDAN (ude desh ka aam nagrik) scheme to neighbouring international locations and ensure affordable flying for the hundreds. Six routes are from Guwahati to Dhaka, Kathmandu, Yangon, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok. And two routes are from Vijayawada to Singapore and Dubai. The policy for UDAN (international) will soon be finalised after which sources say the same could also be kicked off via the year-end.
Aviation minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted: “The purpose of the UDAN (international) scheme is to make stronger international air connectivity between Indian states and select international destinations in the course of the provision of economic support to airlines. It is your next step after the certain domestic affect of UDAN. The scheme will involve a State Government led effort by which State Govts will propose the checklist of routes to be connected. Presently, the state of Assam and Andhra Pradesh have come ahead to participate under the scheme and feature identified the (8) routes.”
“Under the scheme, the state governments might be liable for investment the financial advantages. The scheme envisages offering monetary support, in the form of a subsidy consistent with seat, for the unsold seats from the selection of seats as bid via the airline to make operations viable,” Prabhu added. Which approach as more states come ahead to participate on this scheme, affordable international connectivity to neighbouring international locations will give a boost to under this plan.
The aviation ministry has launched the draft for international air connectivity scheme — UDAN (international) — for session with stakeholders.
From Guwahati, the draft proposes a consistent with seat subsidy of Rs 2,370 to Dhaka; Rs 2,710 to Kathmandu; four,400 to Bangkok; Rs four,770 to Yangon; Rs 7,350 to Kuala Lumpur and Rs 7,880 to Singapore. States must create an “International Air Connectivity Fund” as a devoted corpus for offering this subsidy support.
“Stimulating international air connectivity from/ to Indian states is envisioned under the scheme via supporting airlines in the course of the provision of economic (subsidy) support to fulfill the space, if any, between the cost of airline operations and anticipated revenues on such routes…. it is important that financial support is supplied via the concerned State Government. The scheme is accordingly to be made operational just for states, which demonstrate their dedication to implement and give you the considered necessary support for selling operations under it,” the draft says. Only Indian carriers deploying over 70-seater aircraft might be eligible for investment under this scheme.
