NEW DELHI: Former BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Murli Manohar Joshi has been requested by his birthday celebration not to contest the approaching normal election, a development consistent with its decision not to field lots of its veterans, including its founding member and longest serving chief LK Advani, within the polls.
Joshi's place of work confirmed the advance. It said Joshi has issued a brief remark for citizens in Kanpur, from where the 85-year-old leader had received in 2014.
"Dear voters of Kanpur, Shri Ramlal General Secretary (Org), Bharatiya Janata Party conveyed to me today that I should not contest the ensuing parliamentary election from Kanpur and elsewhere," Joshi said in his letter to citizens.
Joshi had vacated Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, which he had received in 2009, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
It, alternatively, remains to be observed if the previous Union minister, who at the side of former top minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani, used to be observed as BJP's face for more than twenty years, will reconcile to the verdict or no longer.
