BAGALKOT: Three generations, 125 participants and one grand reunion. That sums up the story of the Sonnad circle of relatives, whose participants got here from around the nation for a get-together at Mudhol taluk’s Bhatanur village within the district on Saturday.
From children to octogenarians — cutting throughout obstacles of time and region — they had been all there. Organized by Anand Sonnad, a nephew of noted circle of relatives doctor Dr Ashok Sonnad from Bagalkot, the family members had a day-long union at their property in Bhatanur. Anand looks after the circle of relatives’s landholdings.
Bagalkot is a district in North Karnataka and about 475km from Bengaluru.
Though greater than 80-90 participants come together for circle of relatives occasions and spiritual gala's like Ganesh Chaturthi, this used to be for the first time that they had been underneath one roof within the century-old circle of relatives space. They walked round the home with their kids and grandchildren, through what looked to be acquainted roads and dusty bylanes to relive the previous.
Dr Ashok Sonnad instructed IdealNews it’s uncommon that family members meet each other except for all through marriages or other social occasions. “The idea of joint households is on the decline. The key theme of the reunion used to be to introduce grandchildren to their grandparents and find out how to admire elders,” he added.
The reunion started off with Dr Ashok and his sisterin-law Kasturibai cutting a cake. Grandchildren joined palms with grandparents to offer dance recitals. There had been, of course, larger-thanlife staff pictures and unending selfies with the young and the old. Kasturibai stated the event helped them fortify circle of relatives ties. Former Bilagi MLA JT Patil, Dr RT Patil and Sunil Patil had been a number of the invitees.

Dr Ashok Sonnad, 71, has 11 siblings — six sisters and five brothers — and they had been all there at the reunion.
The circle of relatives is now spread throughout Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Mudhol, Bengaluru and Mumbai, among other towns. Seven participants of the Sonnad siblings have executed doctoral research, and Dr Ashok is the only medical practitioner.
The Guinness World Records has noted the doctoral feat of the Sonnads.
