BJP leader shot dead near Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: Tension ran top at Khurda, about 25 km from here, after miscreants gunned down a local BJP leader on Sunday past due night. The deceased was once recognized as Manguli Jena. Khurda assembly segment that comes below Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat will pass to polls within the third section on April 23.

Police said the killers came on a motorcycle and opened fire at Jena near BJP place of job in Khurda. Protesting the homicide, the aggrieved BJP observed bandh in Khurda from 8 am till 2 pm on Monday.


Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha leader minister Naveen Patnaik condemned the killing. "There is no place of bullets in the democracy. I appeal to our party workers to maintain peace. I have also spoken to the DGP and sought immediate arrest of the culprits," Pradhan tweeted.


"There is no place of violence in democracy. I request the Election Commission to take strong note of it and direct the police to take action," Naveen tweeted.
