PANAJI: The next time you fling rubbish by means of the roadside, Big Brother may be observing you. The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has known 59 places, together with black spots around the capital, where rubbish is strewn by means of residents and people from neighbouring areas.

“It is asked that the imposing agency could be requested to expedite the work and give you the required infrastructure within the following areas,” CCP has stated in a be aware submitted to IPSCDL.
Some of the known places are the Campal prom, the mangrove park at Patto, opposite Geeta Bakery, near the Methodist church in Campal, near Lake View colony in Miramar, near PWD quarters at Bhatulem and Sulabh toilet at Altinho.
IPSCDL, which is imposing the Centre’s Smart City Mission undertaking in Panaji, has awarded the contract for set up of the good cameras, along with the built-in command and keep an eye on centre, to L&T Constructions for Rs 181 crore.
“Information and communications era (ICT)-based cast waste management answer has been envisaged as one of the key areas beneath the Smart city Mission,” stated IPSCDL CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri.
Among the 59 places where CCP needs good surveillance cameras to be put in, there are cast waste black spots, spots within the municipal market vulnerable to spitting and littering, municipal gardens and along the access points of CCP’s jurisdiction.
“Very continuously individuals who live out of doors the town unload their unsegregated waste as they input the town to visit place of job,” stated a CCP municipal engineer.
In August 2018, CCP introduced a 24x7 toll free helpline number — 18002333948 — as a way to stay the town spotless and free of rubbish. The civic body has warned of imposing fines between Rs 500 and Rs 10,000 on those that muddle within the city, but no progress has been made on this entrance.
A workforce of 40 new staff had been deployed for the work of lifting rubbish around the city in three shifts and CCP hopes the CCTV cameras will act as additional deterrence.
