Mangaluru: It was a poignant moment for Gladys D’Souza, who was celebrating her centenary, to see her daughter Glorio Lobo, 75, cave in and pass away all the way through the momentous match. The incident happened at Nympha Sadan, a senior voters’ home near Rosario Cathedral, Bolar, on Monday.
The tragic information has now not been conveyed to Gladys, who was born all the way through World War I and married all the way through WW II. Her eldest daughter Gloria was most probably not able to comprise the excitement of the occasion, and coupled with health issues, collapsed and was later declared lifeless. Gloria, who lives in Canada, had come down with her daughter Liza and brothers Trevor and Christopher D’Souza for the celebrations.
Gloria had taken phase in chopping the cake and delivered an emotional speech and poem in honour of her mother. The celebrations began at 11am and round midday, the tragedy spread out. The body of Gloria is also taken to Canada.
Gladys, born on March 30, 1918, in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar), studied at Good Sheppard Convent School there. She married Joachim Lawrence D’Souza (1905-54), a marine engineer, on December 29, 1942. They moved out of Burma to Kolkata in the mid-1950s. After her husband’s demise, she taught at Don Bosco School, Park Circus, Kolkata, for some years and later faithful all her time to her youngsters. Gladys has been residing at Nympha Sadan in Mangaluru since 2008 as she was now not comfortable with the climate in Canada and US.
