Environment minister releases manual on zoos

NEW DELHI: Union atmosphere minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday released a guide containing guidelines to be adopted whilst putting in place zoos within the country, and requested the government involved to broaden classes on zoo management.

These classes would lend a hand the body of workers, trained in zoo management, sensitise the guests as regards more than a few aspects of environmental protection, the minister mentioned.

He added that the guide will have to now be the "guideline" whilst putting in place zoos within the country.

"Today, I released a book - Design Guidelines for Zoos, the first of its kind in the world on design parameters for zoo, jointly written by Prof. Rommel Mehta, a well-known architect and Dr D N Singh, Member Secretary of #CentralZooAuthority (sic)," Vardhan mentioned in a tweet.

"It will also help zoo authorities across the world as a manual. I have asked the Central Zoo Authority to ensure, any redevelopment of Indian zoos should be according to these guidelines (sic)," the minister added.
