MANGALURU: Alleging that the control of St Agnes College have been denying students permission to wear hijab, Muslim woman students on Monday staged a protest in front of the varsity at Bendorewell in Mangaluru.
“Hijab is our dignity. It is our protector. Who are you to remove it,” said the scholars, all over a protest organised by means of the Campus Front of India.
“We don't seem to be allowed to wear hijab in the school this year onwards. When our Constitution and the federal government permits us to wear hijab, how can the varsity take away our right,” questioned Fathima, a student.
“All Muslim girls learning at St Agnes Institutions will boycott categories till the institution offers us again our right to wear hijab,” she said.
Fathima said the institution preaches spiritual equality and the main of secularism were taught even all over moral science categories. She questioned why the institute had not been training what it preached.
Riyaz, a member of the state committee of Campus Front of India, said a delegation representing female Muslim students arrived on the campus two days in the past to “in a well mannered way” talk to the major and get the issue resolved.
However, neither the major nor any lecturer was once keen to talk. He said they tried approaching the instructing staff even on Monday morning, however, the latter shooed them away saying they were busy.
Meanwhile, the institution in a communique said that it was once dedicated to recognize each and every student.
“St Agnes College is a minority institution catering to ladies’s schooling particularly. We recognize each and every student who chooses to review right here. The control has framed laws and laws to care for order and self-discipline. Accordingly, the varsity rule states that the scholars don't seem to be approved to wear headscarf inside the school rooms most effective. However, we don't have any objection in the event that they wear it outside. The students and their oldsters are conscious about this rule sooner than looking for admission in our faculty. Yet, a couple of students have long gone on a protest without even submitting memorandum. If there are any problems with any student, the control will settle the topic with the scholars and their oldsters,” Sr Jeswina, major, St Agnes College said.
