HYDERABAD: An assistant professor of National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) was once arrested on Monday at the fees of harassing and outraging the modesty of his former superior.
Satyarajan Mahakul, 40, who joined the institute in September last, used to report to the victim, 49, an associate professor at the Centre for Equity and Social Development (CESD) in NIRD.
"The victim approached us after the NIRD authorities had failed to take action against the accused despite receiving a complaint," stated Rajendranagar ACP P Ashok, who is also investigating officer of the case.
The victim stated Mahakul made derogatory feedback taking the title of her caste and physically abused her. "The accused was booked under the SC/ST Atrocities Act and sections of IPC (criminal intimidation and outraging the modesty) and remanded in custody," the ACP stated. However, best NIRD officials stated an inner complaints committee (ICC) is having a look into her fees and denied 'inactivity' as alleged through the victim, who was once got rid of as head of CESD in April this year since she was once now not a "team player".
"Mahakul's insubordination notwithstanding, he would often pass comments about my caste and how I got the job only because of reservation and that I am not even fit to get a job in an anganwadi centre," she stated in her complaint. Her colleague and head of local weather exchange department Dr Prakash Rao stated: "In January, Mahakul barged into my room and shouted at the victim, who was in the room. He then held her neck and pulled her hair. He also made damaging remarks about her caste. When I objected to his behaviour, he said, 'we don't even touch these low caste people.' She was shocked and scared."
Top NIRD officials stated they are looking ahead to a report from ICC. Denying any bias, they stated the lady professor was once "removed as head of CESD as she was not a team player." During the probe, ICC contributors had concluded that Dr Rao was once 'influenced' through the victim.
