NEW DELHI: Congress national president Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged Dassault had paid "kickbacks" to Anil Ambani's corporate to safe the Rafale contract, citing documents that are the newest in the political dogfight over the fighter jet deal .
Addressing a press convention, Rahul stated the unravelling details established Rafale as an "open and shut case of corruption" and PM Narendra Modi would not live on if the deal was once probed.
The documents quoted are annual monetary reports of 2017 of Dassault and Reliance Infrastructure, and monetary accounts of Reliance Airport Developers Limited. Rahul stated Dassault had claimed that Reliance was once given the offsets contract as it had land next to an airport but funding details proved that Dassault "invested" Rs 284 crore in Reliance with which the Indian corporate purchased the land.
"The Dassault CEO is lying. The question is why a firm would invest Rs 284 crore in a company with a capital of just over Rs 8 lakh and is loss making? It is clear cut that this (investment) is the first instalment of kickbacks given by Dassault," Rahul stated.
The Congress leader added Reliance purchased land with Dassault's cash while public sector HAL, which misplaced out at the contract, already had land. The allegation about Dassault putting cash in Reliance sought to construct at the fee that the Modi executive made selection of the Ambani company a situation to sign the deal. Rahul stated the Dassault CEO was once "lying" to avoid wasting Modi who introduced the Rafale deal.
Raising the pitch, the Congress leader stated, "The PM is having sleepless nights. One, because of corruption. Two, because it is very clear who the decision maker was... Nobody would be able to say that some general in the Indian Air Force or the defence minister or some bureaucrat from the defence ministry. It was a deal done by Narendra Modi to give Anil Ambani Rs 30,000 crore," he stated .
"The CBI chief was looking into all these papers, it is obvious that there is enough material in public domain to nail Modi," he added.
