Godman rapes Chembur woman

The Trombay police are on the lookout for an Ujjain-based godman who allegedly raped a 41-year-old city lady and extorted Rs 3.five lakh from her and her husband at the pretext of curing their son of cancer thru rituals. The 10-year-old kid succumbed last yr.

The FIR lodged by the couple says that the godman visited the woman’s house and performed a yajna. During the rituals, he asked the woman and the child to consume some holy ash. But the mother-son duo allegedly fell subconscious after having the ash.

“When they regained consciousness, they found the godman still in the house. He instructed them that it was once completed for her son’s remedy and shortly the child shall be tremendous. He then allegedly took some jewellery value Rs 60,000 from her and left the house,” the officer added.

After a few days, the accused once more contacted the woman to inform her that he had detected some extra headaches in her son and had a remedy for it. But he allegedly asked her to visit the Andheri flat the place he was once staying to know about the remedy.

As alleged within the FIR, the victim went to the flat, the place the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her, claiming that it is part of vidhi (ritual). He also allegedly recorded the act at the digital camera and clicked footage of the woman. Later, he used the movies and the footage to blackmail her for cash, or even threatened to add the similar on social media.

“The lady didn’t inform her husband about the sexual assault. But the godman didn’t spare the husband as properly. He allegedly took around Rs 2.98 lakh from him at the pretext of acting more than a few rituals for his son’s well-being. The remedy in their son was once happening in a well-known cancer health center within the city. But the accused brainwashed them,” the officer stated.

The alleged extortion and harassment by the godman continued even after the child died last yr.

“The accused stored blackmailing the woman till last week. Fed up and traumatised, the woman finally narrated her ordeal to her husband and lodged a complaint with us. The accused is from Ujjain and a group has been dispatched there to search out him,” the officer stated.

Confirming the case, P Salvi, inspector of Trombay police station, stated, “We have registered a case underneath Sections of 376 (rape), 354(a) (sexual harassment), 384 (extortion) and 506 (felony intimidation) of the IPC and underneath relevant sections of the black magic Act.”
