Locals rue lack of bus shelters on Alandi Road

PUNE: A loss of bus shelters at the 10km Vishrantwadi-Alandi Road stretch has forced scholars and several other commuters to face within the scorching warmth for the previous few weeks.

The shelters had began to vanish from the route after road widening work started alongside the stretch.

Commuters have also complained that there are not any designated bus stops in this stretch.

The information of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) state that at least 50 buses, ferrying round 10,000-12,000 passengers, ply in this route on a daily basis.

The stretch is part of the day-to-day shuttle of loads of citizens and scholars from the Dehu Phata, Charoli, Vadmukhwadi, Magazine Chowk and Dighi.

Mangesh Kamble, the employee of a Hadapsar-based personal company, mentioned the authorities involved have totally neglected the welfare of passengers at the stretch.

“How are we able to stand in open areas on this insufferable warmth day-to-day? The PMPML and civic officers will have to experience our day-to-day ordeals. Only then will they know the way tricky it's to face within the warmth even for a few minutes,” mentioned Kamble, who commutes at the route day-to-day.

Public transport at the stretch has been affected by a plethora of problems — packed buses, non-availability of seats, erratic frequency, constant mechanical system faults, amongst others.

A third-year engineering scholar mentioned, “The problems force us to make use of bikes. The PMPML authorities must ideally behavior a survey of the passengers and then deploy buses.”

“The buses are very crowded all through top hours but ply empty otherwise. The management involved has obviously failed,” the engineering scholar added.

Ajay Chartahnkar, the joint Managing Director of PMPML, mentioned the public transport application had carried out a detailed survey of the street a few weeks in the past.

“This route is very important for us because it generates a significant revenue. We could not arrange shelters because of the street widening work,” he mentioned.

“But our endeavour is to ascertain at least 10 shelters at the stretch over the following few weeks,” he added.

Earlier, the PMPML had got rid of a number of bus shelters across the town because of the on-going Metro development work.

“We are making plans to relocate the bus shelters alongside those routes. After Lok Sabha elections, we will be able to add more bus stops on a number of routes for the benefit and protection of commuters,” Chartahnkar added.
