Notorious gangster arrested in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: The counter intelligence (CI) wing along with Jalandhar Rural Police on Tuesday arrested Iqbal Singh Afridi, the top of notorious Cobra gang, and seized .32 bore revolver, 17 are living cartridges from his automotive.

CI assistant inspector general H P S Khakh said Afridi was a notorious gangster of the Majha region and was interested in more than 20 cases, including homicide, try to homicide, gang wars and extortion.


On February three last year, Afridi had allegedly stripped a lady naked in Fatehabad in Tarn Taran and he was additionally wanted in a case of gang battle in Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran, that had left 4 other people useless. He was a proclaimed perpetrator (PO) in many cases and wanted in Mohali and Tarn Taran too.


Khakh said performing on a tip-off, the CI wing and Jalandhar rural police formed a joint team to nab the gangster on his technique to Jalandhar.


Khakh said Afridi was a faculty dropout and had later formed his gang. “Afridi had tried to escape from the police custody in 2007 when he was being taken to a court but had failed. But in 2009, he escape bid was a success,” he said, including that he was later arrested in 2016 through Mohali Police, but he came out on bail in January 2017 and resumed his prison actions.
