Parts of South Goa go dry after pipeline ruptures

MARGAO: Salcete and several other other portions of South Goa went dry on Tuesday after the pipeline supplying water from the Selaulim water treatment plant ruptured at Sonsoddo, Gogol, Margao.


Sources mentioned that the rupture in the 1200mm dia PSC (pre stressed out concrete) transmission primary pipeline resulted in heavy leakage of water, thereby affecting the operations of the 160 MLD Selaulim water treatment plant.


While water provide to Sanguem, Curchorem and portions of Quepem remained in large part unaffected, several spaces of Salcete, including Curtorim, Margao, coastal belt and certain spaces of Verna had to pass with out water for the foremost part of the day.


Work of repairing the joint to seal the rupture used to be performed on a war-footing, and water provide used to be restored through overdue Tuesday night.


Assistant engineer, Krishna Dessai, who led the upkeep workforce wearing out the maintenance, instructed IdealNews that the foremost breakdown in water provide that took place at around eight.30am used to be repaired through five.30pm, and the connection used to be restored soon thereafter.
