ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad top courtroom on Friday declined to stay the arrest of Imran Ansari of Deoria, who's accused of constructing objectionable remarks towards Union minister Smriti Irani on Facebook.
Dismissing a writ petition filed by Ansari, a bench of Justice Vipin Sinha and Justice IA Khan declined to intervene within the subject.
The petitioner had challenged the FIR lodged towards him alleging that he had made objectionable comment towards Irani on Facebook. In the petition, a prayer was made to stay his arrest and likewise quash the FIR.
The FIR was lodged on March 23, 2019, by a Hindu Yuva Vahini member at police station Khukhundu of Deoria district towards the petitioner, alleging that he had made objectionable remarks towards the Union minister after her title was declared within the BJP’s record of applicants for the approaching Lok Sabha election.
The petitioner’s competition was that the case was politically motivated, hence, FIR should be quashed.
