Marijuana peddler dies in Coimbatore police custody, probe on

COIMBATORE: A 36-year-old man, who used to be detained for peddling marijuana, died in police custody right here on Monday night time. Judicial magistrate has introduced a probe into the custodial demise.

The deceased used to be identified as Okay Karthick, of Kempatti Colony in the city. A notorious ganja peddler, he has a minimum of 13 homicide, attempt to homicide, theft, ganja peddling cases pending towards him with the Big Bazaar Street police.


According to a police officer, Karthick used to be detained beneath the Goondas Act and lodged in the city central prison, from where he got here out on bail a few weeks in the past.

On Monday evening, the Big Bazaar Street police were given a tip that Karthick has resumed ganja gross sales at TK Market and picked him up from the spot with 1kg and 250g of contraband. He used to be subsequently taken to the Big Bazaar Street police station for interrogation.


“We have been making plans to produce him prior to a judicial magistrate at night time, but Karthick suffered an assault of fits and fell unconscious. We right away took him to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where medical doctors declared him brought lifeless,” the officer mentioned.


The police knowledgeable his family members, who rushed to the CMCH and accused police of torturing him to demise.
