MUMBAI: An afternoon after a father-and-son duo was once arrested for attacking a traffic constable at Gowalia Tank, a police constable on nakabandi duty was once manhandled and abused through an allegedly inebriated passenger in a BMW automobile at Churchgate early Sunday morning.
The Azad Maidan police arrested Arman Ankolkar (26), an architect residing at Marine Drive, and booked him for attack, deterring a public servant from discharging his duty, intentional insult with intent to provoke, breach of peace and legal intimidation. He was once produced sooner than a Justice of the Peace’s courtroom, which remanded him to judicial custody until Monday.
There were increasing instances of motorists and bikers attacking policemen within the city. Several friends of Ankolkar collected outside the police station when he was once produced in courtroom on Sunday.
Former police commissioner M N Singh said, “Attacks on policemen are turning into a day by day affair. People no longer worry the law enforcers. The civic sense of Mumbaikar was once high and far favored, but now not any further. Policemen themselves damage the law through speaking on their cell phones whilst riding, riding bikes with out helmets and because of their unfastened outfits and casual look, the honour for khaki is thinning. There must be better recruitment, coaching and implementation of self-discipline within the pressure.”
However, suggest Vinod Gangwal warned that the stringent amendments to the IPC sections might be misused through the police to implicate innocent folks. “These amendments are an excessively unhealthy weapon within the palms of the federal government,’’ he said.
