Coimbatore: A city corporation engineer had filed claims of Rs three,50,000 for adjustments made to the corporation commissioner's professional vehicle, RTI replies published. The payment was made to the engineer on February 15, 2015. RTI activists alleged that the volume, which will have to were paid to the dealer directly, was given as a self cheque within the identify of the worker, elevating doubts over its expenditure and function.

Also, for accessories, we need to claim in advance and make payments to the dealers. So, with the permission of the commissioner, these purchases are made and the advance amount is claimed. After the purchase, the bills are submitted and the money is reimbursed after the government pays the civic body," he stated.


Corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan stated that as in step with the norms, certain payments and emergency bills can be made by means of the commissioner himself. "As per the municipal administration act, we can always make payments for emergency and essential services. Since we need to pay advance, the amount is broken up and we get it reimbursed by the State government. There is no scam or mishandling of funds here," he stated.


However, RTI activist Daniel Jesudas stated the vigilance and anti-corruption wing of the State government will have to remember of this and habits an inquiry. "Also, the audit department needs to look into such expenditures carefully. If any employee can claim the money, then there is a chance of funds being misappropriated," he added.
