Fatal accidents come down in city, thanks to traffic police

Coimbatore: Thanks to the proactive measures followed by the town police, the choice of deadly street accidents registered in the city in the first month of the year has come down tremendously. Data available with the town police display that best 15 causalities have been reported between January 1 and 28 in comparison to 22 in January, 2017.
City police commissioner K Periaiah credited the visitors police for bringing down the choice of deadly accidents by putting in barricades on the Sitra-Chinniyampalayam stretch of the busy Avinashi Road. "Vehicle heading towards Tirupur surpass the speed limit of 100kmph-120 kmph after crossing the Sitra signal. As a result, people were finding it difficult to cross the Thoppampatti Pirivu and RG Pudur Junction. Most of the fatal accidents happened when pedestrians tried to cross the busy stretch. So, we kept barricades on the stretch to reduce the flow of traffic. We plan to install three more traffic signals on the stretch," he instructed newshounds on Monday.

Police have recognized 21 twist of fate blackspots, including Kurichi 'Y' Junction, Eachanari Rail Overbridge, Madukkarai Market Road, Olympus Junction, Saravanampatti-Thudiyalur Junction, AG Pudur Junction, Sitra Junction and Lakshmi Mills Junction, Periaiah mentioned.


While police registered 22,331 instances, including 18,898 instances for not wearing helmets and three,433 for not wearing seat belts this year, best 10,788 instances have been registered on this class in the similar duration, closing year.


While as many as 3,990 instances have been registered for crimson light violation, the usage of mobile phones whilst riding, drunken riding, wearing passengers in items vehicle and wearing overload in items cars this year, only one,840 instances have been registered in January, 2017.


As in keeping with the knowledge, there was no alternate in the choice of non-fatal accidents. As many as 77 other folks suffered grievous accidents in the similar duration closing year also.
