IIMs in B'luru & Ahd seek funds, 800 more seats

BENGALURU: Two premier control institutes — IIMs in Bangalore and Ahmedabad — have proposed to add 805 seats between them within the coming year. If licensed via the Centre, the move will take the overall intake capacity of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to 13,216 from 12,411 at this time.

IIM-B and IIM-A have already sent their proposals to the human useful resource construction ministry. IIM-B has sought to add 425 seats and IIM-A 380 seats. Both centres have sought loan from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to create infrastructure for the extra scholar strength.

If the proposed intake is licensed, IIM-B may have 1,646 students, in opposition to the present 1,221. This will make the institute the second one largest when it comes to scholar intake, after IIM-Indore which has 1,907 students. Currently, IIM-Lucknow stands 2nd with 1,332 seats.

IIM-B director G Raghuram informed TOI: “IIM-B has applied for a loan of about Rs 200 crore. The loan will partially cover our intended investment plans for additional infrastructure.” The precise amount of loan sought via IIM-A may now not be confirmed instantly.

IIM-B plans 2d campus with 84 rooms

Raghuram further said that of the extra 425 seats, 300 will pass to two of its two-year MBA programmes, 75 to Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) and 50 to Fellow Management Programme (FPM).

“Currently, we are not ready to offer accommodation to all students. The additional infrastructure deliberate will permit us to offer accommodation and make the programme more attractive, and would also help us building up the dimensions of the programme,” Raghuram said in a observation. He said that IIM-B is taking a look at increasing the amenities on its present campus on Bannerghatta Road: when it comes to the infrastructure, it would be 340 hostel rooms, 112 one BHK and 112 studio rooms, and a 1,400-seater students’ eating and kitchen block.

The plans are afoot for a 2nd campus, with 84 hostel rooms, four 100-seater classrooms, and kitchen and eating rooms with fundamental place of business house.

The present proposal, Raghuram said, “will boost the PG programme, for which IIM-B is understood, and for which there is demand each from students and corporations. Scaling up this programme via two more sections will be a win-win state of affairs. The scaling up can also be focused at specific domain names where there may be marketplace demand, like analytics.” The students of the one-year programme, focused at execs with work revel in, currently keep outdoor campus.

“Bringing them onto campus will beef up the educational ecosystem for this programme. We are also making an allowance for the expansion of this programme into two sections,”Raghuram said.
