Punjab police makes second arrest in Amritsar grenade attack case

CHANDIGARH: Punjab police on Saturday claimed to have nabbed the person who allegedly threw a grenade on a non secular congregation at Nirankari Bhavan near Amritsar closing Sunday leaving three individuals dead. This is the second arrest within the case.

Weapons including a .32 bore pistol, a US made pistol, four magazines and 25 reside cartridges have been recovered from the accused, recognized as Avtar Singh, director common of police Suresh Arora instructed newshounds right here.

Avtar Singh has been arrested from Khayala village below police station Lopoke (in Amritsar), and police would search his remand in court, the DGP stated.


Three individuals including a preacher were killed and over 20 injured within the attack by two-motorcycle borne males which the police handled as a terrorist act.

Police have already arrested Bikramjit Singh, an operative of militant organisation Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) who was allegedly using the motorcycle on that day. It is said that Avtar Singh threw the grenade.

Avtar is a resident of village Chak Mishri Khan, Lopoke (Ajnala), Amritsar.

The DGP stated that initial investigations revealed that an individual recognized as Javed, who's Pakistan-based, was allegedly involved in misguiding the accused to hold out the attack.

The title of any other guy recognized as Paramajit Singh Baba, based in Italy, has additionally emerged during investigation, police stated.


Rejecting claims of the families of the accused that they have been falsely implicated, the DGP stated, "We have enough evidence against them. We do not believe in false implications. We have recovered weapons in the presence of the duty magistrate," he stated.


The DGP additionally expressed fear that "inimical forces were trying to spread a disinformation campaign" on social media to misguide adolescence of the state.


Both the accused in this case had no past legal record, he noted.


The incident had taken place throughout the Nirankari Bhavan's prayer corridor at Adliwal village near Amritsar's Rajasansi.
