Undertrial prisoner from J&K arrested

PATNA: Mohammad Reyaz, 24, an undertrial prisoner in rape and murder case in Jammu & Kashmir, was once arrested by means of Bettiah police from Bhawri village in West Champaran when he was once trying to sneak into Nepal on Saturday evening.

"Reyaz had escaped from police custody when he was being brought back from court to Dangri district jail at Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir on November 25 last year," said Balthar police station SHO Om Prakash Chauhan on Sunday.


He said a staff of J & Okay police reached Bettiah on Sunday to take the accused to Rajouri on transit remand. He said Reyaz belonged to Muradpur village in Rajouri district. "He had been in jail for almost 11 months," Chauhan said and added, "Reyaz is accused in three cases, including rape and murder."


He said Reyaz reached Bettiah greater than every week back from Mumbai and had taken shelter on the place of dwelling of a day-to-day bet under the Ram Nagar police station house. That guy had worked in Mumbai earlier.


"However, Reyaz was asked to leave the house after its owner got suspicious of his activities," Chauhan said, including the accused also worked as a day-to-day bet in Mumbai after escaping from custody.


He said it was once but now not recognized with whom he was once in contact in Nepal and where he had planned to take shelter there.
