BCC dynamics to change as mayor’s post is reserved for ST category

Belagavi: The reservation announced for the following time period within the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) will bring in big political changes with the Marathi-speaking participants losing grip over the civic body.

The secretariat of the city building ministry has announced reservations for the mayor and deputy mayor posts for the 20th time period under Rule 73-A of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (Election) (Amendment) Rules 2014. While the mayor's submit has been reserved for the ST category and the deputy mayor might be from the backward Class A ladies's category.

Currently Marathi participants are in majority within the BCC. But in line with the sources from BCC, there isn't a unmarried candidate belonging to the Scheduled Tribe within the Marathi crew. It is obvious now that the ruling crew will lose power within the next time period.

The Opposition crew has two candidates from the ST category. However, the ruling and Opposition have candidates belonging to the backward Class A ladies's category, which is reserved for the deputy mayor's submit.

The time period of the current mayor Sanjyot Bandekar will end in February and the mayoral elections are expected to be held in March. Councillor from ward no.55 Basappa Chikkaldinni and ward no. 56 Sucheta Gadagundri are prone to contest for the mayor's submit.
