GURGAON: Thousands of citizens residing in 11-odd workforce housing societies primarily based in Gurgaon's Sectors nine and 9A were asked to pay for what appears to be a mistake committed by means of Huda. The cash-strapped Huda issued notices ultimate week to the home owners in those societies to recuperate Rs 10.84 crore as enhanced cost — a transfer that the advance authority should have initiated around 20 years ago.
As a consequence, the owners, who were supposed to pay a total of around Rs 2 crore again then, will now have to pay Rs eight.84 crore additional as interest.
As according to the rules, the "defaulters" must deposit 20% of the dues inside 30 days of receiving the notices. The final amount must be paid in four instalments each six months.
The estate office-I has also threatened to take action and seal the home if its owner failed to settle the dues throughout the next two years.
Huda had got large chunks of land at Basai village within the mid-90s for developing Sectors nine and 9A. However, unsatisfied with the compensations, some farmers, who had given up their plots, had challenged the acquisition within the Punjab and Haryana prime court. In 1999, the prime court had directed the advance authority to pay additional reimbursement to the land donors.
Acting at the HC directive, the government performed a survey, and determined to collect Rs 574 according to sq. metre from the citizens of Sectors nine and 9A for making the additional payments to the farmers. Subsequently, it issued notices to residential and commercial plot holders in this regard, but it appears forgot to ship notices the crowd housing societies.
Now, Huda has asked the flat owners of the crowd housing societies to pay Rs 2,182 according to sq. metre, which contains 15% annual interest for nearly 20 years' extend, as enhanced cost.
Huda estate officer-I Sanjeev Singhla mentioned the dept had asked all officers involved to determine if the government had to recuperate any amount in spaces below their jurisdictions. "We have found that 11 group housing societies have not paid the 'enhancement' as per the HC direction. Thus, notices have been issued for recover of the dues," he added.
As according to the phrases of allotment, if Huda has to pay any "enhanced" reimbursement for land acquisition following any court directive, the additional amount can be recovered from the allottees. "The allottees have to pay the enhancement as and when decided by the court," mentioned Singhla.
The citizens slammed Huda for passing on "the burden of its mistake" to them. "Why should we pay the interests for the mistake made by Huda?" asked Sunil Yadav, a resident of Sector nine. "Huda should collect the principal amounts from the house owners and the interests should be extracted from the officials responsible for the delay."
