NEW DELHI: Putting an finish to hypothesis over the ICC's Future Tours and Programme (FTP) and slotting of global suits all the way through the length IPL is performed, Indian cricket board (BCCI) CEO Rahul Johri confirmed on Wednesday that the Indian board has managed to convince all other forums that there can be just about no or little or no global cricket all the way through the IPL window.
TOI had reported on December 10, 2017, that BCCI was seeking to convince all cricket-playing nations to stay a bilateral-free window all the way through the months of April and May, put up 2019.
"The other boards understand the opportunity of the IPL. They want their players to be available. In the FTP from 2019, there's virtually no or very little international cricket during that period in the calendar. Our endeavor is to overcome even that little international cricket. That is testimony to the strength of the IPL," Johri instructed TOI.
Major hindrance came from England and Wales Cricket board as its global season begins in mid-May. But with England Test captain Joe Root throwing his hat within the auction ring, there are indications that a center ground has been reached.
The other thorny issue BCCI had to deal was over other forums hard Indian players to participate in their T20 leagues. "Everyone would like the Indian players in their leagues too. But if we allow our domestic players then our domestic cricket will be harmed. For the health of global cricket, a strong India is very important. Everybody understands the position of BCCI," Johri mentioned.
While BCCI seems to enter an overdrive in its promotion of the IPL after Star India won the rights, there's an underlying apprehension in regards to the broadcasters dictating how Indian cricket is planned. "I think the BCCI is strong enough to take its own decisions. Having said that, we value each of our partners. We listen to every partner. We work in a collective manner," the CEO mentioned.
There have been issues with the domestic suits going un-televised this season. Star India's cycle has ended this season and the brand new auctions are due in some time. Johri mentioned whilst BCCI is committed to domestic cricket, there are certain obstacles. "The BCCI bilateral rights are coming up for auction shortly. You'll see everything (the clauses) once they unfold. There are times when some problems crop up. Sometimes an international match and domestic match happen simultaneously. In an ideal world, you would want to telecast but there are limitations," he mentioned.
