Chain snatchers didn’t spare them even on Women’s Day

Coimbatore: Chain snatcher’s had a box on the Women’s Day on Thursday as they struck at two puts in the city in the early hours, forcing the town police commissioner, Ok Periaiah, order for tight patrolling from 5am to 8am to curb such incidents.
In the first incident, two bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain weighing five.five sovereigns from 70-year-old Y Gnanaselvam, of Periyar Nagar at Puliyakulam round 7am.

Half-an-hour later, allegedly the similar miscreants snatched another gold chain weighing four.five sovereigns from a girl at Singanallur. According to police, M Amirthavalli, 58, of Boyar Street in Singanallur, was standing in front of her house round 7.30 am when the duo came there on a motorbike and snatched the gold chain from her.

Amirthavalli instantly raised an alarm, but the duo managed to flee from where. Local citizens due to this fact knowledgeable the Singanallur police round 7.45am. Though the police carried out car tests at many puts, they may not hint the chain snatchers.


The city police commissioner, in the meantime, held a meeting with police officials at Ramanathapuram police station and recommended them to intensify patrolling in the city throughout the early hours of the day.


“An assistant commissioner of police will be deployed for the entire 4 sub-divisions. Each sub-division can even get an inspector, who will patrol the realm. Besides, one sub-inspector and other ratings from each police station will guard their house,” Periaiah said.


The further policemen, Periaiah said, would patrol the town from 5am to 8am. “They will be deployed in spaces the place other folks go for morning walk. And their activity is to prevent chain snatching incidents in the city,” he said.
