Chinese hackers targetting WhatsApp: Indian Army

BENGALURU: The Indian military on Sunday launched a video accusing Chinese hackers of targetting users in India to through WhatsApp. The video, urging people to use the social messenger utility safely, comes about four months after the military had warned soldiers posted alongside the Line of Actual Control (LAC) from the usage of a bunch of packages, including WhatsApp.
In a tweet via Indian military’s official deal with, the Additional Directorate General of Public Interface (ADGPI) says that the Chinese use “a wide variety of platforms to penetrate your virtual worlds.”




“The Chinese use a wide variety of platforms to penetrate your virtual world. Whatsapp groups are a new approach of hacking into your system. Chinese numbers starting with +86 barge into your groups and start extracting all the knowledge,” a video tweeted via the ADGPI says.


The military has additional prompt users to be vigilant, careful and instructed them to do regular audits of the groups to see if any number ranging from +86 exist.


“In case you convert the SIM spoil it completely,” the video says. According to the video, knowledge mined from such groups are being leaked to Chinese hackers.
