Citing protests in Kodagu, Centre puts Thalassery line on back burner

Bengaluru: The Centre has just about shelved the Thalassery-Mysuru railway line venture which confronted opposition from environmentalists and folks of Kodagu district. The railway ministry has decided to put the onus on Karnataka and Kerala, saying it is a matter to be resolved between them.
“As such, the railway ministry isn't pursuing the Thalassery-Mysuru rail line venture and it is a bilateral issue between Karnataka and Kerala,” railway minister Piyush Goyal mentioned at a press convention after launching a mechanised laundry at Bengaluru’s Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna station on Thursday.

“When the Kerala government proposed the venture, Karnataka raised environmental issues as the line would move thru an eco-sensitive zone. The two states must resolve the problem and Karnataka must give consent to the venture prior to it makes headway,” mentioned Goyal.

Originally mooted via the Congress-led UPA, the venture was once shelved in 2011 owing to resistance from environmentalists in Karnataka, particularly from the folk of Kodagu. The proposal was once revived in January with the Centre giving in-principle nod to the venture, triggering a fresh round of protests in Kodagu. Goyal mentioned Union minister H N Ananth Kumar had represented the environmental issues following which the Centre decided to head sluggish on the venture.

Waiting halls for ladies in any respect KSRTC bus stands quickly


Transport minister H M Revanna on Thursday mentioned ladies’s waiting halls and children-care centers will likely be built at KSRTC bus stations around the state. “We will set up the rooms in two months. Children-care areas will likely be provided in these rooms. It will have amenities like drinking water, bogs, first-aid field and a child-friendly environment,” he added.


Women’s seats in all KSRTC buses will likely be purple, Revanna mentioned.


BMTC additionally recently presented purple seats for ladies passengers.
