Tailor-entrepreneur Raziya employs neighbourhood women

Hubballi: Raziya Meeranaik, 33, has emerged as a part-time employer for 20 neighbours in Dharwad. She did a degree path in tailoring and her skills have made her an entrepreneur.
Meeranaik said she was once a homemaker and tailor after marriage. “I’d sew blouses and chudidars earlier than marriage. My husband Sikandar Meeranaik, who runs an NGO, urged I educate some neighbours too, When we stayed in Unkal, Hubballi, I started tailoring categories for a month and a dozen homemakers attended and started stitching clothes at home during their loose time. As I started getting extra orders, I’d assign stitching works to them,” she added.

When the circle of relatives relocated to Dharwad 5 years in the past, she took the process severely when see many women enthusiastic about tailoring. “I performed categories for roughly 50 girls in Three-Four batches. After this, about 20 girls who keep close to our home, joined fingers to work in combination. Ten have turn out to be regular employees at our two shops called Surabhi Tailor. One store is at Jayanagar, where we work from 10am to 5pm, and the opposite is at the new bus stand, which collects orders and delivers services to hostel girls. When we approached women and girls’s hostels and paying visitor lodging for orders, we spotted that there is much demand for stitching and lining on fabrics. As orders started pouring in, neighbouring girls took the duty of stitching they usually all urged I should continue with chopping work. Now, I work from 8am to 10pm and do my family work too,” she defined.

Nandini Kudari, a non-public worker, said she has been Raziya’s buyer for the past 12 years and getting good provider. “She never wastes any material and delivers stitched clothes on time. I’ve observed that she has some shoppers in Bengaluru they usually sew dozen of blouses whenever they consult with Dharwad,” she said.

Laxmi Gurram, who does stitching work from Raziya, said her circle of relatives doesn’t allow her to work out of doors. “When we joined Raziya, we started incomes a good amount of money via stitching clothes at home itself. It’s good for us,” she said.

Another co-tailor Girija Diggavi said she wasn’t sure she would get many orders to do business from home. “After Raziya’s efforts, we’re getting extra orders from hostel girls and dealing girls. Now, our reasonable income is around Rs 5,000 per 30 days,” she added.

Sikandar said his wife earns around Rs 30,000 per 30 days. “It’s extra during the marriage season,” he added.
