Tension in Unnao after Ambedkar statue is pulled down

KANPUR: Tension gripped Hayat Nagar space of Bangarmau in Unnao on Friday after a statue of Bhim Rao Ambedkar used to be allegedly pulled down by some folks. According to the police, the trouble mongers were those who were towards preserving 'Bhim Katha'— to celebrate delivery anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram.
“As per the complainant, the lumpen parts did not spare even girls, aged and kids, who were attending the discourse, and thrashed them badly. They threatened and abused supporters of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. They warned the locals not to hang such an match in long run or else face dire penalties," mentioned a senior police reliable.


Before the police may just arrive at the spot, the miscreants managed to escape.


“When the followers of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram resisted the protest by some native youths, the latter attacked them and resorted to violence. They pulled down the statue of Ambedkar and raised anti-dalit slogans. This brought about pressure, and at that time there used to be no police within the space," mentioned an area.


The police, after coming to grasp concerning the incident, rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitated mob, but all in vain. Seeing the people seething in anger, more police power used to be despatched which managed to nab one of the most 5 accused.


“Four accused are still on the run, and they are going to be arrested quickly. An FIR has been registered towards 5 folks on this case,” mentioned DSP, Unnao, Swatantra Singh whilst talking to TOI.
