HUBBALLI: Income Tax sleuths raided a businessman’s flat in Keshwapur right here on Monday in reference to the seizure of substantial sum of money from a car in the district on Sunday.
The sleuths searched the flat for a number of hours and allegedly seized an undisclosed amount of cash and paperwork. The flat at Silver Castle Apartment reportedly belongs to Albert, a businessman.
The cash, which was allegedly being transported in a car on Sunday, was seized for violating the fashion code of habits.
Director General of Income Tax (investigation) Income Tax Department - Karnataka and Goa area, Balakrishnan B R, confirmed to TOI that the quest was in reference to Sunday’s seizure of cash and refused to reveal additional details.
‘Kulkarni’s allegations baseless’
Balakrishna denied Hubballi-Dharwad Central impartial candidate Gopal Kulkarni’s allegation that recent IT raid on a trade premise run via the latter was politically motivated.
In a observation issued on Monday, the DGIT mentioned that 8 persons had been found distributing cash in Hangal constituency in Haveri district and had been detained. A big amount of cash was also recovered from them. The income tax team was called and it took the statements of the detained persons.
The cash was allegedly mentioned to be given via the candidate of a political celebration in Hangal. “The mentioned candidate is the promoter of a series of retail outlets specialising in purchase of previous gold. As a part of the investigation a number of retail outlets of the chain had been visited via the income tax team. This incorporated the Hubballi store which is run via Kulkarni as a franchisee,” the release mentioned.
“The investigation relating to Kulkarni is a direct end result of the investigations relating to the Hangal candidate. There is no other background to the mentioned case. The allegation that the case is politically motivated is baseless,” the DGIT added.
