Ignou to help government launch skill development courses

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department is making plans to introduce non permanent certificate classes on talent building for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the state.
It is scheduled to start those classes in different stage schools with the assistance of Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou), reputable assets mentioned.



The officials of Ignou on Tuesday made a presentation at the identical to higher education secretary Bishnupada Sethi. The executive expressed willingness to start the programme, mentioned an Ignou officer.

S K Panigrahi, the assistant director of the Bhubaneswar regional centre of Ignou, mentioned they sought after to introduce the non permanent certificate classes to offer add-on talents to students whilst they pursued their faculty education.

"We will pay the teachers for teaching our course material. Students will get course materials from us while taking admission. The courses will not hamper normal college routine. We will arrange for classes to be held on Sundays to avoid clash with regular courses," he added.

According to the plan, Ignou will supply those six-month classes in all stage schools. The rate will range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000. Scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students can enrol for the classes without paying any admission rate, mentioned Panigrahi.


He mentioned the University Grants Commission tips permit a scholar to enrol for non permanent certificate classes on talent building. Such students can cater to the needs of the job marketplace after of completion of his/her stage, he added.


Ignou has already started those classes in Rajasthan. "We want to start them in Odisha for the benefit of the students. Our university offers 69 certificate courses. Courses on NGO management, beauty and wellness, rural management, organic farming, dairy farming, bee keeping and IT will help students get a job easily or start a business," he added.


Higher education secretary Sethi mentioned the state executive used to be happy to start the programme in schools with the assistance of Ignou.
