Coimbatore: A corporation invoice collector was once stuck red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a resident of Ganapathy for a development plan approval and to fix tax.
According to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths, they arrested A Mala, 50, for taking bribe from Sivakumar, of Ganapathy.
Per week in the past, Sivakumar approached the north zone company administrative center for a development plan approval. After submitting all of the documents for a clinical apparatus production unit to be set up at Udayampalayam, he met the invoice collector, Mala.
“She and her colleague Kalammal, assistant income officer of north zone, on the other hand, sought money for okaying the approval,” mentioned DVAC inspector Kanagasabapathy. While the invoice collector inspects the location and assesses the realm of the valuables earlier than according approval, the assistant income officer fixes the taxes.
Sivakumar, on the other hand, lodged a criticism with the DVAC officials, who gave him chemical-coated currency notes and requested him to hand over the same to the company officials.
As planned, Sivakumar met Mala at 12.30pm on Saturday and gave her the chemical-coated currency notes. The DVAC officials stuck her whilst receiving the money.
“The assistant income officer was once absent, so shall we no longer arrest her. But she had requested Mala to assemble her share of the bribe as well,” Kanagasabapathy mentioned.
The DVAC officials have registered a case against Mala beneath Section 7 and 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Corporation officials mentioned they'd take departmental action against the officials concerned.
