Some Air India pilots threaten action over salary delay

NEW DELHI: More than half the members of Air India's pilot union have threatened industrial action because of delays in getting their salaries, in step with a letter written by way of the members and observed by way of Reuters on Friday.

Members of a regional committee of the Indian Commercial Pilots Associations' (ICPA) have sent a letter to the Union's central committee, pronouncing that they had made up our minds not to cooperate with the state-run carrier's control till salaries are paid.

They did not give additional details.

In its letters the members warned that no longer getting wages on time leads "to financial stress and mental agony, thereby resulting in undue fatigue which is severely affecting flight safety".

ICPA represents greater than 600 pilots in India, in step with its site.


The danger is the latest setback for the debt-laden carrier this is struggling to satisfy operational expenses after the federal government failed to attract even initial bidders remaining week to shop for a 76 % stake within the airline.


An Air India spokesperson advised Reuters that salaries can be paid next week, adding that the carrier has implemented for a loan of Rs 10 billion ($148 million) to satisfy its expenses.


The carrier has invited bids from monetary institutions by way of June 13 for a momentary loan, in step with an announcement on its site.


An inside understand dated June 6 sent to employees said salaries for May were "delayed and the payment is likely to be made on June 15."
