PUNE: At least 13 luxurious buses, including a Shivshavi bus of the Maharashtra state highway shipping company, had been gutted in a major fire that broke out at a garage in Shindewadi, about 25km from here, on Wednesday morning.
No one was reported injured in the incident. It took about an hour for the Pune fire brigade to douse the blaze. "Eight parked buses were completely destroyed while five others were left severely damaged," Sanjay Ramteke, fire officer told TOI.
He said that fireplace broke out in one of the parked buses round 10am on Wednesday. Within a couple of seconds, it unfold to other areas and engulfed extra buses. "Our two fire tenders and two water browsers were sent to the spot," Ramteke said.
Garage proprietor Ashoka Rai told IdealNews that one in all his mechanics was looking to start a bus when the fireplace broke out because of short circuit. "Due to fibre and other material, it immediately covered the entire bus," Rai said.
Rai and other workers attempted to douse the fireplace via using fire extinguishers in the garage. "As the fire spread rapidly, it went beyond our control. So we immediately alerted the fire brigade," Rai said.
Rai said that there have been one Shivshahi and other non-public buses in the garage. "The buses were damaged in the fire," Rai said.
