Lok Sabha elections 2019: Mamata woos Kurmi voters in Jamshedpur with Mahato pick

In an effort to encash her reputation past West Bengal and cement her place as a countrywide leader, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee has fielded three applicants in Jharkhand. TMC has decided to appoint Anjana Mahato from Jamshedpur seat, Sanjay Kumar Pandey from Ranchi and Mondol Hansda from Rajmahal.
Soon after Mamata’s announcement of fielding three applicants and her promising that the record could be bigger within the days to return, she gained a jolt when her birthday party's Jharkhand in rate and ‘bahubali neta’ and MLA from Bhatpara (West Bengal) Arjun Singh abandoned her camp and joined BJP.

Angered after being unnoticed for the Barrackpore seat, Singh left the birthday party.

Meanwhile, talking in regards to the prospects of TMC in Jharkhand, ballot pundits say the birthday party will protected votes lesser than NOTA and after Arjun Singh's resignation will make the situation worse. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, 15,629 NOTA votes have been cast within the Jamshedpur constituency.


On the other hand, trying to money in on the kurmi votes (2.five lakh of 16 lakh electorate) Mamata played her caste cards protected in Jamshedpur seat by means of fielding Anjana Mahato, who's from the similar community. Incidentally, Kurmis have at all times played a big role in deciding the destiny of Jamshedpur applicants for the reason that 1989 normal glections, when Shailendra Mahato from the community gained the seat on a JMM ticket.


Sources stated Anjana is a professor within the law division of Bankura University in West Bengal and, apparently, is the wife of Srikant Mahato, the TMC MLA from Salboni in West Midnapore.
