Pulwama martyr’s widow to reject Rs 12L aid

CHANDIGARH/BATHINDA: The circle of relatives of CRPF head constable Jaimal Singh, who used to be driving the bus blown aside in Pulwama by way of a JeM suicide bomber on February 14, is offended with the Punjab government.

His widow Sukhjit Kaur said on Tuesday the circle of relatives would no longer settle for the compensation offered by way of the Amarinder Singh government and would return the cheque of Rs five lakh presented to them by way of Punjab minister Gurpreet Kangar. “I don’t want any compensation from the Punjab government. Sometime again, minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar gave us a cheque of Rs five lakh out of Rs 12 lakh as promised by way of the state government. But now, I will be able to be returning that cash as well,” Sukhjit instructed TOI.

Jaimal, who had joined CRPF as a constable when he used to be only 19 on April 23, 1993, is survived by way of his oldsters, Jaswant Singh and Sukhwinder Kaur, spouse Sukhjit, son Gurparkash and younger brother Nasib Singh.

Punjab had announced Rs 12 lakh financial help together with a government activity to the relations of the Pulwama martyrs from the state.

The circle of relatives from Ghalauti village in Punjab’s Moga district is disappointed that no one from the government took time to contact them after the bhog ceremony on February 23 and said it is going to no longer settle for any help from the state government. “If the Rajasthan government is giving Rs 50 lakhs to the households then why Punjab is giving Rs 12 lakh? It is like they're insulting us. We was hoping that the state government will stand by way of us but after the memorial provider on February 23, no one from state government ever cared to contact us to grasp beneath which cases we are living,” Sukhjit said.

The circle of relatives is so disappointed that they have got decided to jot down to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, complaining concerning the Punjab government.

When contacted, Kangar said, “I had no concept that Rs 7 lakh have no longer been provided to the circle of relatives. I will be able to inquire into it and if there is no factor of code of conduct, I will be able to be sure that it's delivered in a day or so. If it can't no longer be given due to code of conduct, it is going to be paid instantly after lifting of code of conduct. Our government is committed towards the households of the martyrs.”

Commenting on the factor, Moga DC Sandeep Hans said, “Rs five lakh has been handed over as first instalment of compensation to the circle of relatives of head constable Jaimal Singh. The second instalment of Rs 7 lakh, together with Rs 1 lakh every to his parents, will be provided quickly. A reminder has been despatched to the government.”


The Shiromani Akali Dal said the state government will have to match the compensation awarded by way of other state governments. “It is unhappy that the government is taking any such long time to free up the quantity. The state government will have to compensate them accurately. If other state governments are giving more, then Punjab government will have to give the same. There will have to be an inquiry as to why the government took so much of time to present the quantity to the households. There is no level in giving the compensation in instalments,” SAD spokesperson Daljeet Cheema instructed TOI.


Asked for his comments, Faridkot MP Sadhu Singh said it used to be unlucky that the state government had no longer fulfilled its dedication towards the martyr’s circle of relatives and had no longer made any contact to offer solace to the bereaved circle of relatives.
