CBSE scraps assessment tests for classes IX, XI

MUMBAI: The Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) has decided to scrap Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) tests for categories IX and XI from the 2015-2016 instructional year. The tests assessed students on their skill to resolve application-based problems.

The tests, which have been presented in 2012 for categories IX and XI, are held in January to reinforce the generic and better order thinking talents of scholars. The PSA marks scored in Class IX had been counted in Class X as a part of a summative evaluate.

CBSE faculties lately gained a circular from the board's controller of examination. It stated, "The board has decided to do away with the conduct of PSA in classes IX & XI from the session 2015-16." The circular has asked faculties to behavior a formative evaluate for college kids who had been in Class IX in 2014-2015 instructional year and may now not take the PSA or want to reinforce scores.

The PSAs have been criticiz-ed by way of lot of lecturers and students for its level of difficulty and nature of evaluate. However, principals stated they nonetheless need some readability from the board. "The circular is not clear on how it will be phased out and how the schools are supposed to mark the Class X students in the absence of PSAs," stated a principal of a Navi Mumbai faculty.
