Residents hit streets against waste plant in Sector 123

NOIDA: Nearly 1,000 citizens from high-rise societies and within reach villages protested against the proposed waste-to-energy plant in Sector 123. The area is densely populated and setting up of this sort of plant will be hazardous for citizens, animals and brids, the protesters stated.

Hundreds of other people from Ajnara Homes 121, Gaur Grandeur, Prateek Laurel and Eldeco Homes from Sector 117-122, apart from neighbouring villages like Behlolpur, Sarfabad, Sorkha, Parthala Khanjarpur and Ghari Chaukhandi protested on the CNG roundabout in Sector 123 from morning till night, pressing the Noida Authority and the district management to handle their grievances.

The 25-acre proposed waste-to-energy website online is solely 175 metres from Ajnara Homes 121 and is separated via the proposed Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway.

We can simply believe having a Ghazipur-like dumping flooring next to our houses. This will be an enormous health hazard to other people living in the neighbourhood. We will not allow the Noida Authority to wreck our lives. We can not find the money for this," stated Anoopam Oberai, a resident of Sector 122.

The transfer comes after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) allowed the Noida Authority ultimate week to set up a plant in the proposed plot inside of six months and shift all dumped rubbish from a vacant plot in Sector 138 A to the brand new plant.

"The Authority thinks that the trained and professional other people living in the neighbourhood would no longer protest against the issue. But now we have launched a marketing campaign - 'Dumping Virodh Abhiyan'. We have requested the Authority to close this website online in a single week or face protest," Oberai stated.

R C Singh, a resident of Homes 121, stated, "We totally supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make our town blank. But its a real understatement that the Authority made up our minds to dump town's rubbish in entrance of our houses."

Later some members of Samajwadi Party also joined the protest and echoed the citizens' sentiments.

R S Yadav, challenge engineer, Noida Authority stated the NGT pointers and order will be followed in setting up the waste-to-energy plant. "Only notified spaces will be used for waste-to-energy plants. Noida Authority has two notified websites in Sector 123 and Sector 151 which can be used," he stated.
